Joe mateo, pt, dpt, c-ps

Joe is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine. He studied kinesiology at San Francisco State University and in 2017, earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine in San Marcos, CA. He is currently preparing for a 7-hour exam to become a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in February 2024.

He worked in an outpatient orthopedic clinic for about 4 years and felt the time was right to start his own venture, and to offer physical therapy his way.

He was born and raised in San Francisco (as you may have guessed from the color scheme). Growing up he played basketball, football, and baseball. Nowadays, he stays active by lifting weights, riding his bike, and hiking.

UCSF. December 2020

In December 2020, Dr. Joe underwent a labral repair and rotator cuff repair on his right shoulder by the amazing Dr. Ma and his team at the University of California, San Francisco.

Decades of wear and tear from weightlifting and sports—as well as the physical demands of his profession—finally pushed his shoulder past its limits.

His rehab journey showed him what it’s like to be the one on the treatment table. Even though he’s treated hundreds of shoulders, this first-hand experience helped him empathize even more with what a patient is going through.

Prowler work! Skyline College. August 2021

Dr. Joe became a physical therapist because of love for two things: sports and helping people.

He’s always wanted to have a positive impact on as many lives as possible, to change the world, even if it’s one person at a time.

Being a physical therapist allows him to use what he feels are his best characteristics in order to accomplish that goal.
