Physical Therapy

Evaluation

We will perform a complete structural and functional assessment to help us create a performance physical therapy plan tailored to your goals.

hands-on DIFFERENCE

Manual therapy and hands-on techniques will lead the way. This may include soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and resisted exercises.

[re]building

Corrective exercises, strength training, and neuromuscular re-education will help us restore and improve your mobility, control, and strength.

“…My injury impacted the nerves in my legs and Joe had helped me gain strength and mobility again…

I really appreciated his kindness and he is very passionate about helping people improve. I would definitely recommend Joe for anyone who is looking to work with a physical therapist who is not only professional, but very personable as well.

Thank you Joe for helping me get back on my feet (literally).”

Get the most out of your body

Everything the body does is performance, whether it’s playing basketball, walking your dog, going for a hike, working your job, or playing with your kids. An injury, surgery, or nagging aches and pains can limit your ability to participate in these activities. We all know how hard it is to enjoy life when you are unable to do what you love.

In traditional physical therapy, decreasing pain or eliminating pain is often the focus. “Pain is gone? Great, you are good to go!” While pain, and the cause of it, is a key piece of the puzzle it is simply that—a piece.

In performance physical therapy, we will look at you as a whole. We will focus on moving better, moving more, getting stronger, and getting more powerful. Tailored to your specific goals and activities, we will focus on getting the most out of your body.

“I was seeing Joe for my lower back pain. Prior to PT, I was scared to put any stress on my back, so I avoided heavy lifting or bending down. Joe took my concerns into consideration, and throughout our sessions, we focused on strengthening my back/core/glutes and proper form and technique with weights.

After working with Joe for a few months, my back has been feeling stronger, and I have gained more confidence going about my day without worrying about pain. Thank you, Joe!”

“When I tore my meniscus and I realized I had to go to physical therapy I got connected to Joe. We were trying to see if I could rehab my knee instead of get surgery. Well I ended up having to get surgery because not enough blood flow got to the knee to heal it.

Joe did physical therapy with me before and after surgery. He made it a point to make sure that I got my full mobility back and he made it fun by keeping it light and he always had a smile… Go with Joe and you will have fun while you recover!”

FAQs

  • No! Physical therapists are movement experts and as a Champion Performance Specialist, we will use a complete movement assessment to find any movement dysfunctions or imbalances. Rather than working to restore your mobility, control, and strength, we will start with working to optimize them.

  • No! California allows Direct Access to physical therapy, as long as the client’s care is within the scope of physical therapy.

CA Direct Access laws allow for direct physical therapy treatment for up to 45 calendar days or 12 visits, whichever comes first. After 45 days or 12 visits, physical therapy may continue only after a client obtains a prescription from their physician.

  • Traditional PT clinics often send you off with a home exercise program, but what happens when those exercises become too easy? When you are ready to “graduate” from physical therapy, JMPT offers 2 options: programming and Performance Medicine.

With programming, you will receive a home exercise program specific to your needs and goals but, once things become too easy, I will update the program accordingly. We can then go over the changes in person or via video chat.

With Performance Medicine, we will continue to work together in-person and build upon the foundation created in physical therapy. Much like our physical therapy sessions, I will bring what we need. However, there will be less (if any) hands-on, therapeutic techniques — at this point we are ready to turn up the intensity.

  • JMPT is an out-of-network provider and does not directly accept insurance. The traditional insurance model prevents me from treating clients the way they deserve: with 1-on-1 attention for the entire session.

Also gone is “twice a week for 6 weeks” — that is mostly an insurance thing and to make sure a clinic’s schedule is full. Most clients will not even require anything close to that many visits (post-surgical may be an exception)!

After our 90-minute initial evaluation and creating our plan, some clients may only need 3-4 visits spread out over 2 months! Meanwhile, I will always be available via phone, text, or email.

Many clients do have the potential for reimbursement or partial reimbursement from their health insurance provider. JMPT will create a Superbill for PT services provided, which you can then claim with your health insurance.
